The Sims 4 Family
The first family I played is.... well second family. That's because I tried to recreate the Calver family in the Sims 4, but abandoned them because the aging and the relationship system works differently than in the Sims 3. As the result, Carletta and Chad quickly became old and Caroline end up as their only child because I couldn't get the couple to have more children. I even took screenshots of the new Calver family too! But I decided to make a fresh file and created the Martin family and see how long I can make the family go.
Unlike the Calver family, there isn't much lore for the Martin family other than the couple, Andreas and Risa were childhood friends who started dating during high school, got married and moved into a house I built (and use cheat codes to get the lot for free and add all the nice furniture) in Newport. As for the jobs, I remember Andreas worked in the business career and Risa was a house wife. Later on, Risa gave birth to four children: a pair of twins, Alex and Sabrina, Liam and Pauline. One of the most memberible thing that happened that the Christmas tree was set on fire! Thankfully, no one died and it was set out pretty quickly.
Then Andreas and Risa grew old as their kids grew up and I put them different tracks. I made Sabrina the next hier of Gen 2 while I kicked her twin brother out of the house and made her two younger siblings, Liam and Pauline, go to university since I bought the pack and used them as guinea pigs to see how the university system in the Sims 4 worked. While the youngest were in university, Sabrina became an activist in the politcial career, her father retired as a CEO and died in his sleep, making him the first Sim to die in my save.
Somewhere before or after Andreas' death, Pauline started dating a guy name Cole Burke and I remember he has different traits that might be non comparible to her or something. Hmpff and I can't find someone to date Sabrina! It was at that point, I started to get burn out playing with the family and didn't even get a granchild out of them! So after two years of playing on and off, I abandoned the Martin family before coming back in 2023 to test some stuff when Risa, FINALLY dies! It didn't help I made her very athletic and master the skill, which make her live 10x longer than most Sims. As for the bold person in the background, that was Pauline, who had modded hair and I forgot to put the mods back on when I played in the file (thanks Sims 4 updates).
The Mullen family is my third attempt in having a legacy family. Unlike the Martins, there is a grandchild in the mix. And this time, I started using mods such as MC Command Center, Slice of Life and Wicked Whims in order to make the game feel more "realistic". It worked half of the time then the game updates and it turns off the mods, so it doesn't crash the game, then your forced to go the mods' website and update it. Ugh...
As for the Mullen family, I made Joy and Dakota, a newlywed couple who moved in a built house that I made (with cheat codes included) on a new save file in Newport. Joy is a food critic who paints on the side and Dakota works in the astronaut career track and later became a Space Ranger. For awhile, I have the two enjoy life, going around town, meeting new people and celerbating Christmas (or Winterfest the game calls it).
Then Joy gave birth to two daughters: Felicity and Scarlett. The family then spends some quality time growing up together such as watching TV, dancing to music, having family meals, doing homework together and going through a bear phase that some Sim children have in the game (the one in the purple bear suit was Felicity). Oh, both Joy and Dakota nearly got burned to death by the washing machine a few times, which could've end poorly.
When Felicity became an adult, I made her the Gen 2 heir and have her start working as a detective. At the same time, Dakota and Joy got old, got into a fight over Dakota refusing to retire from his job, as he said the pension doesn't pay well. The fight then led to him to sleep in the garage for a bit to get some space. As the daughters grow older, they made friends from school and at the bar and their parents made up from the fight. Then Dakota died of a heart attack after coming back from his Space Ranger job. One of Joy's painting perfectly describe her feelings after the death of her husband.
On a brighter note, Felicity start dating a man named Jamie Caliente, whose mom is Nina Caliente, who has a daughter from another relationship and his dad is a generic Sims character named Seiji, who has three daughters from another relationship. You can thank MC Command Center for that as it allow non-house control Sims to have their own families, which they tend to have a lot. Later on, Jamie moved in the Mullen household, where he start working in the business career. Eventually, Felicity proposed to him (normally is the other way around) and he agree to marry her!
Other major events that happen is that Scarlett became an adult and decided to go to unviersity to get her Bachelor's Degree in science. During her time there, a lunch server at the Student Union dining hall died of old age, showing that dumb things can still happen to non-controlled Sims. And oh, the ghost of Scarlett's dad pop up at the house to say hello to his still living wife.
As for the main, Felicity and Jamie then did something that I never before in my save is to have Woohoo right before marriage (gasp!), which caused Felicity to get pregnant with her frist child. Then she and Jamie became the first Sims in my game to get married (and I get frusted on how the weddings work in the Sims 4) and a few days later, she gave birth to a son, Sebastian. For the first two stages of his life (this was before the infant stage was added a few years later, which I haven't touch yet), everything was calm and normal, where he having loving parents, a silly grandmother and caring aunt, where nothing terrible happens to anyone...
...Then Joy sadly died in her sleep due to old age, which brought everyone's mood down. Afterwards, Jamie nearly burn down the house by trying to cook dinner on the stove! Sebastian then became a child, whose both a bookworm and athletic. Scarlett then got her Bachelor's Degree, got a 3rd level career in the science field for getting her degree and then she moved out, leaving Sebastian and his parents behind.
This was how far I went with the Mullen family as after a year, I got burnt out playing the Sims 4 again. I know, even with the mods, I still got burnt out. At least I made it Gen 2 at least. I wish I can try to get 10 generations or even get to 5 generations, like in my Sims 3 file. But between my executive dysfunction and the numerous updates to the game, which cause the mods to break and force me to go online to get updated mods, I got burn out real quickly. Maybe one day, I try again...
